Students of Department of Chemistry took part in the Workshop and Hands-on training on "Advanced Characterization Techniques for Biomaterials" organized by the Department of Prosthodontics of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Services on 12/10/2022.Students were taught the techniques, Application and handling of the various instruments such as U-V visible Spectroscopy, Confocal Microscopy,Electron spining,etc..,
Inauguration Ceremony of Aurum club and Career guidance program was held on 07/09/2022. The newsletter for the academic year 2022-2023 was released by the Chief Guest Dr.C.Karthick Assistant Professor & Head Department of Chemistry, Thiruthangal Nadar College. The Resource person gave a brief note on various opportunities available to the students in the field of Chemistry and various Government exams conducted across India.

Department of Chemistry celebrated Teacher's day on 05/09/2022 as a tribute for their support, hardwork and dedication. A speech was given by the student on Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan whose birthday is celebrated as Teachers day and also it was a day of Death anniversary of our founder Mrs.Elizabeth Thomas on remarking her vision a speech was also given by a student.
The Department of Chemistry organised a student induction programme on 27/08/2022 for the first year students of the Department. Purpose of the Student Induction Programme is to help new students to know more about the various clubs and wider opportunities available in the institution to equip themselves and to help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to sense of self exploration. The incharge faculties gave brief orientation about their clubs.
The Chennai festival was held for 3 days at Nandanam Government College, Chennai. Arts programs and exhibitions were held under the name of 'Chennai Festival' from 19th August 2022- 21st August 2022 under the name of 'Chennai Festival' on behalf of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The students of Department of Chemistry took part in it.The "Milir" Products were on sale.

Students of III B.Sc. Chemistry went on an industrial visit to Modern Bakers Pvt Ltd., (Parle G Plant),Madhavaram on July 15th 2022. The Students visited the biscuit manufacturing facility gaining practical exposure to management skills.,etc.The students were taken inside the Parle G baking plant in explained by skilled personnel on various stages of production, starting from raw material till packing of the finished products.Also they provided the students sample products.
Students of III B.Sc. Chemistry went on a trip to the Vivekananda Illam, Triplicane,Chennai on July 14th 2022. The building is a historic landmark, now called as Vivekanandar Illam (means House in Tamil) in remembrance of Swami Vivekananda staying here for 9 days in 1897. Students Saw photographs depicting the history of the building and more pictures of Swami throughout his life and a mini theatre showing 3D Movie of Swami’s Chicago speech.Students also visited the book store present there.
Students of II B.Sc. Chemistry went on a field visit to the PUZHAL Lake, Red Hills, on July 13th, 2022. This visit was to explore the lake and students had a pleasant experience.This is one of the waterbodies that is fed by the Chembarambakkam Lake, apart from the Adyar River and the Porur lake. It has a capacity to hold water up to, a quantity of 3300 million cubic feet.
Third year students of Department of Chemistry in association with Consumers Club visited the campus neighborhood on 24/05/2022 and collected some food ingredients like turmeric, coffee,tea,milk .etc.,from their houses and test it for adulteration. This testing really created awareness among them and Adulteration should be checked properly in common food items so as to save people from its bad effects.
Water is one of the most precious natural resource. The surface of the earth mostly consists of water, although only a part of it is usable. This precious and limited resource, therefore, must be used with care. As it is required for different purposes, the suitability of it must be checked before use. Water analysis was done by the II year students of Department of Chemistry in association with the NSS on 31st May 2022 and 1st June 2022. Nearly 25 water samples were collected from the campus neighborhood and analysed the content of Chlorine, Fluoride, pH, Hardness and Alkalinity, etc.,in it.
Miss. R. Vedavalli received her degree from Honourable Governor of Tamilnadu, R.N. Ravi, in the presence of our Honourable Chief Minister Thiru. M.K. Stalin and Higher Education Minister K . Ponmudy on Monday, 16th May 2022, at the 164th Annual Convocation, University of Madras.
A State Level Workshop on 'Molecular Modelling Tools' was organized by Department of Chemistry on April 23, 2022 in the college campus for students with an objective to acquaint the students with knowledge on Molecular Modelling and conceptual background of Computational Chemistry. Hands-on Training on Molecular Modelling Tools was given to the students of various colleges.
