Aurum club

Aurum club was inaugurated in the year 2016 when the department was started. The purpose of the club is to organize programs to develop awareness and concern for scientific principles in personal, social, environmental and technological contexts. The club encourages students to enthusiastically participate in the activities organized by the club.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT - EXCELLENCE IN BOXING

 Ms. Angel Agnes S., a Second-Year student of the Department of Chemistry, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, participated in the Smt. Padmavathy Sports Fest 2026–2027 organized by Bhaktavatsalam Memorial College for Women (BMC).

She participated in the Boxing event and secured First Position, bringing pride and recognition to our department and institution.

The Department of Chemistry congratulates Ms. Angel Agnes S. on her remarkable achievement and wishes her continued success in her future endeavour.

                           



RESEARCH PLAN PRESENTATION (24/08/2026)

 The Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the Centre for Student Development (CFSD) and CTTE Aurum Club, organized a Research Plan Presentation on 24 August 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at S5, C.T.T.E. College for Women. The programme was attended by students from I B.Sc., II B.Sc., and III B.Sc. Chemistry.

The main focus of the programme was the research project plans of the III B.Sc. Chemistry students. Each third-year student presented their proposed project, explaining the research topic, objectives, planned methodology, materials or techniques to be used, and the expected outcomes of their work.

During the presentations, the faculty members and Dr. R. Kavitha provided valuable suggestions and guidance. They discussed the necessary changes and improvements in the students’ project plans and helped them refine their research ideas and methodologies.

Dr. R. Kavitha also shared her knowledge and expertise with the students, highlighting the importance of proper planning, clarity of objectives, appropriate methodology, critical thinking, and innovation in research. Her valuable insights helped the students gain a better understanding of how to approach their projects systematically.

The participation of students from all three years made the programme an informative and engaging academic experience. The session encouraged the students to develop their research skills, improve their project planning, and gain confidence in presenting their scientific ideas.

Overall, the Research Plan Presentation served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and academic development, motivating students to undertake their research projects with greater clarity and confidence.

IN - HOUSE LECTURE (19/08/2026)

In-House Lecture on Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, organized an In-House Lecture on “Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning in Chemistry” on 19 August 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the S5 Classroom. The programme was organized to introduce students to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the field of chemistry and scientific research.

The session was graced by Mrs. S. Poornima, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Applications, CTTE College for Women, who served as the resource person. The lecture provided students with an opportunity to understand how modern computational technologies are transforming traditional approaches to chemistry.

The session began with an introduction to the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Students were introduced to the ways in which AI can be used to process large amounts of chemical data, identify patterns, predict molecular properties and support scientific decision-making. The resource person also explained how machine learning techniques can be applied to areas such as drug discovery, molecular modelling, chemical analysis, materials science and prediction of chemical reactions.

The lecture highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary learning, particularly the connection between chemistry and computer science. Students gained an understanding of how computational tools can complement laboratory experiments, reduce time and resources, and assist researchers in developing innovative solutions to complex chemical problems.

The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to explore the possibilities of AI and ML beyond conventional academic learning. The programme also created awareness about the importance of acquiring digital and computational skills for future careers and research in chemistry.

The In-House Lecture was an informative and enriching experience for the students. It successfully demonstrated that the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Chemistry can open new avenues for innovation, research and sustainable scientific development.

LEARN & REFLECT ( 05\08\2026 )

The Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with the CTTE Library, organized a "Learn & Reflect" session on 5th August 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in the College Library. The session focused on the book How to Develop Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie.

As part of the programme,  students from III B.Sc. Chemistry presented insightful reviews of the book. They shared the key ideas, valuable lessons, and practical applications of Dale Carnegie's principles, emphasizing the importance of self-confidence, effective communication, and public speaking in personal and professional development.

The session encouraged students to cultivate reading habits, enhance their presentation skills, and develop confidence in expressing their thoughts. The interactive discussions made the event informative and inspiring, motivating the participants to apply the concepts learned from the book in their academic and everyday lives.

The programme concluded successfully with active participation from students and faculty, making it a meaningful initiative towards promoting lifelong learning and personality development.
