DENGUE AWARENESS PROGRAMME - CREATING A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY ( 01/10/2026 )

The Department of Chemistry organized a Dengue Awareness Programme on 1st October 2026 with the active participation of students from I, II and III B.Sc. Chemistry. The programme aimed to create awareness about dengue prevention and the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.

The programme focused on simple yet effective preventive measures such as eliminating stagnant water, preventing mosquito breeding, maintaining cleanliness in and around the surroundings, and protecting oneself from mosquito bites. Students were encouraged to understand their role in preventing the spread of dengue and to share the awareness gained with their families and community.

As part of the programme, students from all three years took a Dengue Awareness Pledge. Through the pledge, they committed themselves to keeping their surroundings clean, taking necessary preventive measures, and spreading awareness about dengue prevention among others.

The programme successfully motivated students to take collective responsibility for dengue prevention, environmental cleanliness and community health. The active participation of the students reflected their commitment towards building a cleaner, healthier and dengue-free community.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN TAMIZHTHENDRAL PERAVAI ( 28/09/2026)

The Language Department of our college organized Tamizhthendral Peravai, followed by Talent Identification Competitions, for the academic year 2026–2027 on 28 September 2026. The competitions provided students with a platform to showcase their talents and communication skills.

We are delighted to share that Aneesa Fathima. S, a student of II B.Sc. Chemistry, secured Second Position in the Oratorical Competition. Her confident performance and effective oratory skills brought pride to the Chemistry Department.

The Department of Chemistry proudly congratulates Aneesa Fathima. S on this commendable achievement and wishes her continued success in her academic and co-curricular pursuits.

STUDENT PROJECT PRESENTATION AT ICAFМES–2026 ( 01/10/2026 )

On 1st October 2026, our students Jenifer Mariya. J, Krithika. S, and Swathi. K had the opportunity to present their undergraduate research projects at the International Conference on Advanced Functional Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage Devices (ICAFMES–2026), organized by the School of Basic Sciences and the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, VELS Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS).

The students presented their research projects on green synthesis of nanoparticles and sustainable applications, showcasing innovative approaches in nanotechnology and environmental science.

Jenifer Mariya. J presented her project titled:

“Green Synthesis of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Using Curry Leaves for Photocatalytic Water Purification.”Her work explored the use of curry leaf extract as a natural and eco-friendly approach for the synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles, with a focus on their potential application in photocatalytic water purification.

Krithika. S presented her undergraduate research project titled:

“Eco-Friendly Extraction of Pectin from Powdered Citrus Peels: A Comparative Analysis of Orange and Sweet Lime Peels.” Her project focused on the sustainable utilization of citrus peel waste for the extraction of crude pectin, highlighting the value of converting food waste into a useful biomaterial.

Swathi. K presented her project titled:

“Green Synthesis of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles Using Prosopis juliflora (Seemai Karuvelam) Leaf Extract.”Her research explored the potential of Prosopis juliflora leaf extract as a plant-based method for the synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles.

The conference provided the students with a valuable platform to present their research, develop scientific communication skills, interact with researchers, and gain exposure to current developments in advanced functional materials and nanotechnology.

DIGITAL DESIGN SKILLS - A HANDS ON CANVA WORKSHOP ( 29/09/2026 )

The Department of Chemistry, CTTE College for Women, organised a “Digital Design Skills: A Hands-on Canva Workshop” on 29th September 2026 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the S5 Classroom. The session was conducted as a skill-development initiative to introduce students to the fundamentals of digital designing and creative communication using Canva.

The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Durga Devi M, Programmer, CTTE College for Women, who served as the resource person for the session. She provided students with practical guidance on using Canva and demonstrated various tools and features involved in creating attractive and professional digital designs.

The hands-on nature of the workshop enabled students to actively explore Canva and understand how digital design skills can be applied to academic activities, presentations, posters, invitations, social media content and other creative projects. Students participated enthusiastically and gained practical exposure to designing and presenting their ideas effectively through digital platforms.

The session was an enriching learning experience that enhanced the students’ creativity, digital literacy and design skills, while encouraging them to make effective use of technology for academic and professional purposes.

                    

ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD VISIT ( 26/09/2026 )

In Department of Chemistry, As part of the Environmental Studies curriculum, the II Year students of the Department of Chemistry visited Farmguru Agritech Center on 26 September 2026. The field visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to environmental conservation, sustainable agricultural practices, biodiversity, and the importance of protecting natural resources.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to observe various aspects of sustainable farming and understand how agricultural practices can be carried out in an environmentally responsible manner. The visit helped them gain practical knowledge about the relationship between agriculture, soil, water, plants, and the surrounding ecosystem.

The students were introduced to different sustainable farming practices and gained awareness of the importance of reducing environmental impact through responsible use of natural resources. They also observed various plants and agricultural activities, which helped them understand the significance of biodiversity and the role of vegetation in maintaining ecological balance.

The field visit provided an opportunity for the students to connect the concepts learned in the classroom with real-world environmental practices. It enhanced their awareness of sustainable development, conservation of natural resources, and the need for environmentally friendly approaches in agriculture.

The visit was an informative and enriching learning experience for the students. It encouraged them to develop greater environmental awareness and understand their responsibility towards conserving nature and promoting a sustainable future.

   

BEYOND THE PAGES - A REFLECTIVE READING PROGRAMME (24/09/2026)

The Department of Chemistry, in association with the CTTE Library, organised “Beyond the Pages – A Reflective Reading Programme” on 24 September 2026 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Seminar Hall of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women.

The programme aimed to encourage students to move beyond simply reading books and to reflect on the ideas, values, and life lessons conveyed through them. The session provided an opportunity for students to share their personal reflections and insights gained from their reading experiences.

The programme featured reflections on inspiring books including Ikigai, Who Moved My Cheese?, The Art of Being Alone, Confidence, and A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life. Students highlighted the important messages they gathered from these works and related them to everyday life, personal growth, confidence, adaptability, and meaningful living.

The reflective sharing created an engaging atmosphere where reading was viewed not merely as an academic activity but as a means of self-discovery, personal development, and thoughtful living. The programme successfully encouraged students to connect the lessons from books with their own experiences and perspectives.

Overall, “Beyond the Pages” served as a meaningful platform for cultivating a reflective reading culture among students and demonstrated how the ideas found within books can extend far beyond their pages into everyday life.                      

CHEMFINITY - AN INTERCOLLEGIATE EVENT (29/08/2026)

CHEMFINITY 2026 – Exploring the World of Research, Innovation and Opportunity

The Department of Chemistry, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women (CTTE), Perambur, through the CTTE Aurum Club, proudly organized CHEMFINITY 2026, an intercollegiate Chemfest, on 29th August 2026 at the T. Thomas Auditorium.

The event brought together enthusiastic young minds from various colleges with the aim of fostering a passion for chemistry, scientific thinking, research, innovation, and academic excellence.

A Special Lecture on Research and Opportunities

A major highlight of CHEMFINITY 2026 was the special lecture delivered by the distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. Ashok K. Sundramoorthy, Professor of Materials Science at Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Chennai.

Dr. Ashok K. Sundramoorthy delivered an insightful lecture on the topic:

“PhD in Science: Your Gateway to the World of Research, Innovation, and Opportunity”

The session provided students with valuable insights into the world of higher education and scientific research. He highlighted the importance of pursuing research with curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to explore new ideas. The lecture also helped students understand how a PhD can open doors to diverse opportunities in academia, research, innovation, industry, and interdisciplinary science.

Inspiring Young Chemists

CHEMFINITY 2026 served as an excellent platform for students to showcase their knowledge, creativity, teamwork, and scientific abilities. The event encouraged participants to look beyond textbooks and develop a deeper appreciation for chemistry and its applications in the real world.

The interactions and activities throughout the event created an atmosphere of learning, healthy competition, and collaboration. Students had the opportunity to meet and interact with fellow young chemists, exchange ideas, and gain new perspectives.
