Aurum club

Aurum club was inaugurated in the year 2016 when the department was started. The purpose of the club is to organize programs to develop awareness and concern for scientific principles in personal, social, environmental and technological contexts. The club encourages students to enthusiastically participate in the activities organized by the club.

ALUMNI INTERACTION SESSION UNDER FRESHER'S ORIENTATION PROGRAMME (27\07\2026)

 The Department of Chemistry organized an Alumni Interaction Session as part of the Fresher’s Orientation Programme 2026 on 27th July 2026. The session was conducted with the aim of providing valuable guidance, motivation, and insights to the first-year B.Sc. Chemistry students by connecting them with a successful alumna.

The resource person for the session was Ms. Pooviarasi. M, an alumna of the Department of Chemistry, Batch (2019–2022), currently serving as a Sanitary Inspector in the Municipal Administration & Water Supply Department, Avadi Municipal Corporation. She shared her academic journey, career experiences, and the opportunities available for chemistry graduates in various fields.

During the interactive session, Ms. Pooviarasi encouraged students to develop a positive attitude towards learning, improve their skills, and make effective use of the opportunities provided during their college journey. She highlighted the importance of discipline, communication skills, continuous learning, and dedication in achieving career goals.

The session also included a question-and-answer interaction, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts regarding higher education, career pathways, competitive examinations, and professional development. The interaction provided the freshers with confidence and motivation to plan their academic and career growth.

The programme concluded with a note of gratitude to the resource person for sharing her valuable experiences and inspiring the young minds. The Alumni Interaction Session served as a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing and strengthened the bond between the department and its alumni.

EXPERT TALK ON "FUTURE SKILLS FOR AN AI DRIVEN WORLD" (15\07\2026)

On the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, the Department of Chemistry, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, organized an Expert Talk on “Future Skills for an AI-Driven World” on 25 July 2026 through Google Meet.

The session was delivered by Dr. K. Thenmozhi, Associate Professor (Senior), Department of Chemistry, School of Advanced Sciences, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). The resource person shared valuable insights on the importance of developing future-ready skills in the era of Artificial Intelligence. She highlighted the significance of critical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, adaptability, communication, collaboration, and lifelong learning in meeting the demands of the rapidly evolving technological world.

Students gained a better understanding of how AI is transforming various industries, including science and research, and learned how to prepare themselves for emerging career opportunities. The interactive session motivated participants to continuously upgrade their knowledge and embrace innovation with confidence.

The program concluded with an engaging interaction, where students clarified their doubts and expressed their appreciation for the informative session. The expert talk successfully inspired students to develop essential skills required to thrive in an AI-driven future.

              

DEPARTMENT DAY CELEBRATION (04\03\2026)

The Department of Chemistry, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women, successfully organized a Department Day Celebration featuring a special Alumna Talk on "Beyond the Degree: Preparing for the Professional World" on 4th March 2026 at 12:30 p.m. in the Conference Hall.

The session was delivered by our distinguished alumna, Ms. Vedavalli R. (Batch: 2018–2021), who is currently serving as a TGT2 Science – Chemistry Educator at DAV Girls Senior Secondary School, Mogappair.

The speaker shared her inspiring journey from being a student of the department to becoming a successful educator. She emphasized the importance of developing professional skills, effective communication, continuous learning, confidence, and adaptability to meet the expectations of today's competitive world. She also provided valuable guidance on career opportunities, interview preparation, and the transition from college life to the professional environment.

The interactive session motivated students to focus on both academic excellence and personal development. Students actively participated by asking questions and gained practical insights into career planning and professional growth.

The Department of Chemistry expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Vedavalli R. for sharing her valuable experiences and inspiring our students to confidently prepare for their future careers. The session was highly informative, engaging, and beneficial for all the participants.

PANEL DISCUSSION ON ENERGY, CONFLICT & GLOBAL PEACE 26\03\2026

The Department of Chemistry successfully organized an engaging Panel Discussion on the theme "Energy, Conflicts & Global Peace." The event provided a dynamic platform for students to exchange ideas and perspectives on the crucial relationship between energy resources, global conflicts, and the importance of fostering sustainable peace.

The discussion encouraged participants to critically analyze contemporary global challenges, emphasizing the role of energy security, international cooperation, and scientific innovation in building a peaceful and sustainable future. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students presenting well-researched viewpoints and thought-provoking arguments.

The panel discussion was evaluated by Dr. T. Ramya, Head of the Department of Physics and Dean of Academics, who graciously served as the judge for the event. Her insightful observations, constructive feedback, and valuable guidance motivated the participants and enriched the overall learning experience.

The event concluded successfully, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of energy, global conflicts, and peace, while inspiring them to become responsible citizens committed to sustainable development and global harmony.

SCIENCE FIESTA - HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (27\03\2026)

 The Department of Chemistry, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women organized a Science Fiesta – Higher Education Awareness Program on 27th March 2026. The program was conducted to create awareness among students who had completed their Class XII education and were planning to pursue higher studies.

The Class XII passed-out students from St. Mary’s School were invited to participate in the program. The faculty members of the Department of Chemistry welcomed the students and introduced them to the department, its academic activities, and the importance of Chemistry in higher education.

An informative session was conducted to explain the various branches of Chemistry, including Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. The students were also given an overview of the applications of Chemistry in industries, pharmaceuticals, research, environmental science, and daily life.

The faculty members highlighted the career opportunities available after pursuing Chemistry, including higher studies, research fields, teaching, and various industrial sectors. The interactive session helped students understand the scope of Chemistry and guided them in making informed decisions about their future education.

The program concluded successfully with a vote of thanks to the management, faculty members, and the participating students for their valuable support and involvement.
