Tribute to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai on His Birth Anniversary
On 12 August, we remember Dr. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (1919–1971), the Father of India’s space programme, founder of ISRO, and a true visionary who believed that science must serve society. His work transformed India’s space research into a tool for addressing real challenges from communication and weather forecasting to education and disaster management.
Today, Krithika S, II B.Sc Chemistry, delivered a thoughtful presentation on his life, his role in building ISRO, and the vital links between chemistry and space research.
Rocket fuels – from cryogenic propellants to composite solids.
Advanced materials – polymers, alloys, and ceramics for spacecraft.
Life-support systems – recycling air, purifying water, preserving food in space.
As a science educator, I am inspired to see young minds engage with his ideals, connecting classroom knowledge with society’s needs and the possibilities of space exploration.
May we continue to carry forward Sarabhai’s vision where science uplifts people and advances humanity.
