Aurum club

Aurum club was inaugurated in the year 2016 when the department was started. The purpose of the club is to organize programs to develop awareness and concern for scientific principles in personal, social, environmental and technological contexts. The club encourages students to enthusiastically participate in the activities organized by the club.

WORLD CLEANUP DAY(20/09/2025)

World Cleanup Day 2025 – Chemistry in Action!

The Department of Chemistry, CTTE College (Aurum Club), proudly celebrated World Cleanup Day 2025 with impactful student-led initiatives today, September 20, 2025.

Our students:

Presented a mini-poster session on green chemistry principles-waste minimization, safer solvents, and recycling.

Conducted a cleanup drive – ensuring board, benches, system tables, lab working tables, and classroom benches were thoroughly cleaned, thereby promoting safe and sustainable practices.

Took part in a discussion on the global theme – Textile and Fashion Waste, addressing the urgent challenge of fast fashion, textile waste, and the importance of circular fashion systems.

INTERNATIONAL OZONE DAY 2025

International Ozone Day 2025 - From Science to Global Action

The Department of Chemistry, CTTE College (Aurum Club), observed International Ozone Day with an interactive quiz and a meaningful pledge-taking ceremony on September 16, 2025.

Our students pledged to:

Minimize the use of ozone-depleting substances like CFCs and halons.

Promote eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives through the knowledge of chemistry.

Reduce emissions contributing to ozone depletion and climate change. Research, innovate, and support green chemistry practices.

Use science to protect the ozone layer and sustain life on Earth.

This initiative highlights the urgent need to raise awareness on ozone protection, climate action, and the responsibility we hold as future chemists and global citizens.

Together, let us protect our sky shield – the ozone layer – for generations to come!

A Legacy of Empowerment(05/09/2025)

Remembering Dr. Elizabeth Thomas – A Legacy of Empowerment

On this day, we fondly remember our beloved founder, Dr. Elizabeth Thomas, whose vision gave birth to Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women. Since its inauguration on 27th June 1985, her dream has empowered generations of women to rise with confidence and knowledge.

Though she left us on 5th September 2006, her spirit continues to guide the institution, inspiring us to uphold her values of education, empowerment, and service.

As CTTE celebrates 40 years of legacy, we honor her memory with gratitude and pride, carrying her vision into the future with renewed strength.

As a tribute from the Chemistry Department, our students enacted the lives of inspiring women leaders like Mother Teresa, Malala, and Sunita Williams—a gesture of respect, honor, and commitment to the cause of women empowerment.

Her life reminds us: empowered to empower, her vision lives on forever.

World Coconut Day (02/09/2025)

 Celebrating World Coconut Day

Today, the Chemistry Department specially observed World Coconut Day.

Maria Jenifer J of II B.Sc Chemistry delivered an insightful talk on the chemistry of coconut, showing how science is embedded in everyday life.

Our students also discussed and reflected on an article by Mr. P. Thulasi Narayanan, State Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association, published in "The Hindu-Tamil Thisai." This enriched the session by linking science with culture, economy, and society.

In his article, Mr. Thulasi Narayanan beautifully highlights:

The scientific side: antiviral properties of lauric acid & monolaurin in coconut oil.

The cultural and historical depth, from ancient Indian texts to Marco Polo’s travel accounts.

The economic role, India’s global leadership in production, coir exports, and farmer livelihoods.

The current challenges are climate change, pests, fair pricing, and the need for stronger government support.

Coconut truly lives up to its name, “Kalpavriksha”, the tree of life, enriching health, culture, economy, and sustainability all at once.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Thulasi Narayanan for voicing the immense value of this tree and the concerns of our farmers.
