Catalyst for Humanity (26/08/2025)

Mother Teresa: A Catalyst for Humanity

On the occasion of Mother Teresa’s birth anniversary, the Department of Chemistry organized a special program titled “Mother Teresa- A Catalyst for Humanity.”

Our students, Swathi K (II B.Sc Chemistry) and Dharanya (I B.Sc Chemistry), delivered an insightful speech that beautifully connected Mother Teresa’s values of compassion and service with key concepts in chemistry.

From likening her role as a catalyst for kindness to drawing parallels with bonds of love, chain reactions of compassion, purity of heart, and crystallization of service, the session reminded us that chemistry is not confined to the lab, it also reflects the reactions of life.

A heartfelt thanks to our students for inspiring us to see both science and humanity through a meaningful lens.

LEARN AND REFLECT (25/08/2025)

Learn & Reflect: Insights from Atomic Habits

The Department of Chemistry, in association with CTTE Library, organized a unique “Learn and Reflect” Chapter-wise session on Atomic Habits on 25th August 2025 at 2:30 P.M in the CTTE Library. Each student and teacher was allotted one chapter from the book.

Instead of routine presentations, participants were asked to study the chapter in depth, reflect on its concepts, and note down key learnings and personal insights.

Through interactive reflections and discussions, participants discovered practical ways to build good habits, break unproductive ones, and cultivate a mindset for long-term success.

The event was more than just a reading—it was a moment of shared growth and motivation, reminding everyone that small, intentional steps can truly create remarkable results.

✨ A meaningful session that left lasting inspiration for personal and academic journeys.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT - CIPET (22/08/2025)

The Department of Chemistry at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women organized an industrial visit for its students to the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) on August 22, 2025. The visit was arranged to provide Chemistry students with practical exposure to the latest technologies, industrial processes, and research facilities related to polymers and petrochemicals.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by officials at CIPET, who provided a detailed orientation about the institution, its pioneering role in research and development, and its contributions to the plastics and manufacturing industries.

The students were then taken on a guided tour of the laboratories, processing units, and testing facilities, where they observed real-time industrial practices and interacted with professionals. This experience enabled them to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application while also clarifying their academic and career-related queries.

The visit proved to be highly informative, enriching, and inspiring for the Chemistry students, broadening their knowledge base and motivating them to explore future opportunities in the fields of polymers and petrochemicals.'

Tribute to Dr.Vikram Sarabhai(12/08/2025)

Tribute to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai on His Birth Anniversary

On 12 August, we remember Dr. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai (1919–1971), the Father of India’s space programme, founder of ISRO, and a true visionary who believed that science must serve society. His work transformed India’s space research into a tool for addressing real challenges from communication and weather forecasting to education and disaster management.

Today, Krithika S, II B.Sc Chemistry, delivered a thoughtful presentation on his life, his role in building ISRO, and the vital links between chemistry and space research.

Rocket fuels – from cryogenic propellants to composite solids.

Advanced materials – polymers, alloys, and ceramics for spacecraft.

Life-support systems – recycling air, purifying water, preserving food in space.

As a science educator, I am inspired to see young minds engage with his ideals, connecting classroom knowledge with society’s needs and the possibilities of space exploration.

May we continue to carry forward Sarabhai’s vision where science uplifts people and advances humanity.

HIROSHIMA DAY (06/08/2025)

80 Years Since Hiroshima: A Pledge for Peace from Chemistry Students

Today, August 6, 2025, marks 80 years since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, a tragedy that instantly killed around 70,000 people and claimed another 70,000 lives by year’s end due to radiation sickness.

Three days later, Nagasaki suffered the same fate.

These were not just historical events; they were human disasters whose full impact was not fully understood until years later.

In 1954, the crew of the Japanese fishing boat Fukuryu Maru (Lucky Dragon #5) was exposed to radioactive fallout from the U.S. Castle Bravo nuclear test, 86 miles away from the blast. Every crew member fell ill. The world finally began to grasp the long-term effects of nuclear weapons.

Since 1945, the world has followed an unspoken rule: the “norm of non-use” of nuclear weapons. But today, with rising geopolitical tensions, modernization of arsenals, and nuclear threats returning to global headlines, this norm is under pressure.

To honour this day, students of the Department of Chemistry took this pledge:

“I pledge to remember the lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

I will stand for peace, respect life, and speak out against violence.

I will learn, educate others, and use my voice for a world without nuclear weapons.”

Let us remember the voices of the Hibakusha, the survivors, who have spent their lives sharing painful truths in hopes of a better world.

They were finally recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024, nearly 70 years after their campaign began.

Their message remains:

 ๐Ÿ›‘ Never again.
